Dark-sky observing trip to Haverthwaite (Cumbria) on 25th/26th October 2008

The Society hosts a series of Tuesday evening meetings throughout the darker months of the year. Each of these feature a presentation by Society members, or visiting guest speakers (often from local Universities). Recent talks have included:


A live demonstration of imaging through the Liverpool Telescope on La Palma
Astro imaging with a simple digital camera
Supernova research at Jodrell Bank
The South African Large Telescope project
Observing radio echoes from meteor trails
A forum on observing equipment

In addition to our regular programme of Tuesday evening meetings, Society members also take part in the following activities:


Weekend trips to a dark-sky observing site in the Lake District
Solar eclipse viewing demonstration for local schools
Public solar viewing demonstrations at the Moses Gate Country Fair
A group trip to the Equinox Star Camp in Norfolk

Our trips to dark-sky sites often include the fabulous 12-inch binocular telescope, made by BAS members Brian Webber and Gerald Bramall.
